Head-On Collision in Wilkinson County Leaves 4 Dead, 2 Injured

The police responded to what would prove to be a deadly crash Wednesday night. Just before midnight, they received a report of a two-vehicle crash on Fall Line Freeway near Mount Pleasant Church Road.

The crash involved a pickup truck and another vehicle. The pickup truck, driven by 25-year old Richard Talbot skidded on the road and ended up driving into oncoming traffic. As he entered the other lanes, another vehicle crashed into his truck.

This second vehicle was driven by 50-year old Wanda Peacock. Peacock is an employee at the Sandersville Police Department. She is also a resident of Sandersville.

Talbot was from Milledgeville. The county coroner pronounced him dead at the scene of the crash. He had two other passengers in his truck at the time of the accident as well. 21-year old Dalton Merritt, of McIntyre, also died as a result of the accident.

The second passenger, 27-year old Dalton Whitley sustained serious injuries and was taken to the local hospital. There has been no update on his condition.

The driver of the car that hit Talbot was airlifted to the hospital. She also sustained serious injuries in the crash. Unfortunately, the two people in the car with her were not so lucky. Both 77-year old Katie Peacock and 31-year old Jontavious Ingram died in the crash. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is still being conducted. Depending on the outcome of this investigation, the Peacock family as well as the family of Ingram will likely have a wrongful death claim against Talbot. Even though they crashed into the pickup truck, they wouldn’t have done so had Talbot not driven into oncoming traffic.
