Head-on Collision in Walton County Kills One

A man lost his life in a head-on collision in Walton County. The fatal crash occurred on the morning of Tuesday, May 4. It was reported to the authorities at around 7 a.m.

According to the details shared by the Georgia State Patrol, the collision involved two vehicles. These were identified as a grey Jeep Grand Cherokee and a black Ford Mustang. The Jeep was headed eastbound along State Route 138 at the time of the crash.

As the Jeep reached the Alcovy River Bridge along the highway, it crossed the centerline and entered into the path of the oncoming traffic in the westbound lanes. This was when the Ford Mustang collided with the Jeep at a high rate of speed.

The driver of the Ford Mustang was identified as Lawrence Cooper, 31, of Monroe. Cooper suffered critical injuries in the head-on crash. By the time the first responders and paramedics arrived on the crash scene, he had succumbed to her injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The Jeep driver was identified by GSP as Wilkerny Geanty, 57, of Covington. Geanty sustained moderate injuries in the accident. He was transported to the Piedmont Walton Hospital for the treatment of his injuries.

Preliminary investigations by the GSP show that drug or alcohol-related impairment was not a likely cause of the head-on collision in Walton County. However, investigations are still ongoing. It is likely that formal charges will be filed against Geanty for causing the crash once the investigations conclude.

Following the crash, Highway 138 was shut down as authorities conducted on-site investigations and cleanup. The route was finally reopened to traffic a few hours later.

For crashes caused by the negligence of an at-fault driver, an Atlanta car accident lawyer can help the victims or victims’ families recover compensatory damages.
